This refers to how children learn to interact with others, understand their own feelings and manage emotions in different situations. It includes skills like making friends, sharing, taking turns, expressing emotions appropriately and coping with stress or frustration. As children grow, they become better at recognizing social cues, developing empathy and building relationships. Social and emotional development is essential for a child's well-being, learning and overall success in school and life. Occupational therapy can support children by helping them improve social skills, emotional regulation and resilience, allowing them to interact confidently with peers and adults.
